This is a firearm and hunting introduction event, not an official hunter’s safety course.
Anyone interested in basic firearm usage and hunting basics are invited to come. We will meet at Blackwood Sporting Co at 9:00 am for introductions. Those attending will be able to learn the basics of handling a firearm and safety with Relate Mentors. Another station of Mentors will provide basic information on hunting and stand etiquette. Each registration will include five shots of a weapon, but ammunition is available for purchase in the range store if you would like more range time. Some Mentors ' personal weapons will be available for you to examine and shoot.
Those joining Relate Ministries for the Deer Hunt on January 17 are highly encouraged to attend.

Let's start the year with full freezers and a great hunting trip to George West, Texas. This event will not only fill the freezer but also provide an opportunity to dig into God’s Word while building relationships with new friends. Relate Ministries aims to provide a fun, comfortable, and safe environment for men to do what men do while having the opportunity and encouragement to talk about the One who gives us the ability to enjoy the activities we love.
The gate will open on Friday the 17th at 3 pm for early arrivals, and the event will officially begin at 7 pm with dinner. Friday night will be a time to get to know the others in the group and talk about the hunts that will begin on Saturday morning. We will have a designated stand for hunters to use and will assist in getting hunters to and from blinds. This is an all-hands-on-deck event. While it is not a fully guided hunt, there will be lots of learning and knowledge sharing. One helpful area will be the men who can give directions on processing deer, especially for those who have never done it. We will share the responsibility of cooking and cleaning the meals and snacks provided for us.
This event is structured for guys to build relationships while serving and enjoying the outdoors, not being catered to like a client. All attendees are encouraged to stay for the full event; this is not a kill-and-run event. Departure is scheduled for Monday morning after camp clean-up. There will be plenty of opportunities to harvest a deer on Saturday and Sunday. If you must leave on Sunday to return to work on Monday, that will be okay.
This event will have men ranging from 18-65 years young. Some dads will have their younger children with them, and they will be hunting with children younger than 17. We will have designated times to gather as a group to have biblical conversations. This is not a church service or a bible study, but an opportunity for believers and non-believers to come together in a comfortable environment to discuss and share our beliefs and grow in understanding.
There will be a gun safety and range event held at Blackwood Gun Club (LINK COMING SOON) for all those who would like to attend. This is a great opportunity to come and learn about hunting safety and gun handling or just to sharpen your skills on the range. We will discuss rifle and pistol safety and demonstrate how to safely load, handle, and shoot. If you are good with safety and your aim, we still encourage attendees of the hunt to come and meet others who will be on the trip. This is not required but encouraged. This is not a hunter safety or professional gun class but a chance to get to know one another and learn about safety and shooting. You may bring your wife and children of appropriate age.

Friday night will be a time of fellowship and relationship-building for Mentors and men who want to know more about Relate Ministries. We will meet at the lake house in the evening, with dinner being at 7 pm. Men who are here for the fellowship and getting to know more are free to leave after breakfast on Saturday.
The training will begin after breakfast on Saturday. The training will begin focus on apologetics including what it is, why we need it, and how to apply it. Other information session will be added as we get closer.

We invite seasoned paddlers or beginners, men or GENERATIONS of men, to join us as we float, paddle, and camp along the Upper Brazos River near Possum Kingdom Lake. We will put in at the Highway 16 crossing and take out at the Highway 180 crossing. Participants can meet at Rochelle’s Canoe Rental after work on April 10; we can camp at the rental facility that evening (eat dinner before you arrive). We will put in Friday morning, April 11. Each person/family group will be responsible for transporting items for the entire group in addition to your personal gear. Your canoe will be assigned group items, including firewood, food, coolers, etc. This allows us to minimize the duplication of supplies that are brought.
The trip cost includes a 2-man canoe rental fee, food for meals, drinks, and firewood. If you plan to bring your own canoe, you will be given a discount to offset the rental cost (Approximately $120).
The registration deadline of April 1 will be enforced to allow for canoe rental arrangements and meal planning.
~ Keep in mind this is a 2-night camping trip, so consider your group’s capabilities, i.e., no restroom facilities. ~
